Other Custom Products
Span's business plan primarily deals with developing and maintaining its own product lines. However, we leave the welcome sign out for companies interested in joining together with us to develop custom products, resulting in a business relationship that is likely to continue through production phases into the future.
This is not to be interpreted as a consulting business. Rather, it's a willingness to join in a project with agreements in place that anticipate benefits to both companies over a long term. Typically, Span provides certain electronic designs and manufactures electronic elements for the project. The benefit to our partners starts with a wholehearted, full commitment by Span to contribute to the success of the entire project.
Many of the below efforts resulted in patents. Driving this spirit of innovation is a continuing ability and a mature facility for creating products in the world of electronics. We believe that companies do not always have on board technical skills to take their products to new levels. Span's skill set added to those of other companies has produced products that neither could have produced alone.

Smart Batteries, Smart Devices
After 25 years, the entrepreneurial spirit remains a persistent force at Span. After all, it was developing a medical device, an oximeter, that sparked Span's founding. In addition, we contributed the electronic elements of an automatic, programmable grain drying machine including an accurate grain wetness sensor. “Smart” charger business produced recognition that a convenient device to display information stored in the heart of ‘smart' batteries would be helpful. We did that with our still available “Smart Battery Reader” product.
Magnetic Suspension Device
Far afield from batteries, Span developed a magnetic suspension device that is truly unique in its performance. It adapts to items in a wide range of weights to automatically “float." It grabs the object and secures it in position by applying both attraction and repulsion as needed. Floating sporting equipment, shoes, globes, even live wireless speakers proves a grand attraction for inquisitive eyes.
Handicapped Vehicle Devices
Finally, unrelated to anything above, Span developed systems to render vehicles drivable by severely handicapped people. This project included developing triply redundant steering elements with voting logic, brake and accelerator controls, position sensors, force sensors, custom discrete motor drive circuits, a back-up battery power system, even a ‘black box' recorder to provide information should there be a system failure, and all digital control systems.
